Low test scores may alert a parent to the possibility of a learning disability or may simply indicate the need for a curriculum change.\u00a0\u00a0 Periodic testing beginning in the elementary years can acclimate the student to a more formal testing environment while providing helpful information for the parent to use as one form of assessment.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Testing Schedule:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At a <strong><em>minimum<\/em><\/strong>, SCAIHS students should be tested <strong><em>every other year<\/em><\/strong> beginning with grade 3 and continuing through grade 11 (the odd numbered grades).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Accepted tests:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Grades 3-6<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stanford Achievement Test<\/li>\n<li>Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS)<\/li>\n<li>TerraNova2 \/ CAT 6<\/li>\n<li>ERB<\/li>\n<li>Woodcock Johnson<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>**MAP Testing: It is NOT recommended. However, if you choose to use this test all three tests (fall, winter, and spring) must be given in one calendar year, and the following school year, a standardized test with national norms should be given.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Test Administrator<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>You are free to choose your own tester, provided he or she is an approved test administrator.\u00a0 The testing company determines the guidelines for the tester qualifications.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>When to Test<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It is recommended that students be tested after completing at least 135 days of school.\u00a0 For results to be available in time for our June 7<sup>th<\/sup> reporting, we advise testing no later than early May.\u00a0 If you do not have your results by June 7<sup>th<\/sup>, complete your year-end reporting and notify your counselor of the delay in submitting test results.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Important Testing Considerations<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Due to program requirements and qualifications, some parents might want to consider testing in additional years.\u00a0 Those programs are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Eta Sigma Alpha National Home School Honor Society for grades 9-12 has an annual testing requirement.<\/li>\n<li>The PSAT\/NMSQT scores from the junior year (October) are used to identify recipients of the National Merit Scholarship.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A student transferring to public or private school might need recent standardized testing for admittance.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Standardized testing, when used properly, can be helpful in evaluating a student\u2019s strengths and weaknesses.
