Grading Guidelines
Members with elementary students are required to submit year-end grades on June 7th. The grading scale options are listed below – traditional and non-graded. The numerical averages are those of the SC uniform grading scale. Most primary instructors use traditional grading (averages) for subjects in which the materials provide regular tests or quizzes. The non-graded scale is used for subjects in which the materials are activity-based and do not provide tests. Many members issue grades using a mix from both scales depending on the materials used. You may submit grades for extra-curricular areas in which your child is involved; however, they are not required.
SC UNIFORM GRADING SCALE:
A 90 – 100
B 80 – 89
C 70 – 79
D 60 – 69
F 59 and below
OPTIONAL “NON-GRADED” SCALE FOR GRADES K6 – 8:
E Excellent
S Satisfactory
M Making Progress
N Needs Improvement
U Unsatisfactory
**The goal for each subject/course is to complete all work presented on the Proposed Course of Study form within the academic year. If it is not possible to complete the work during the year, please record “Inc” (for incomplete) for the subject/course. When the work/course is complete, please send the final grade to your counselor.
Keep in mind that at least 70% of each of the subject/course materials must be finished to earn a passing grade in a subject/course.
